HOW TO FIND YOUR TIRE SIZE
Need to know your tire size (ordering new winter tires, rims or accessories) but not sure how?
WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?
Not everyone realizes how much information is printed on the size of tires or have noticed the numbers but never knew what they meant.
Taking the above image as an example, we will break down what each part means:
P225 / 45R17 91V
P = "P-Metric".
This is the most common type of tire and represents a passenger vehicle (cars, minivans, light duty trucks, SUVs)
225 = 225 millimeters.
The three digits that follow this first letter represent the cross-sectional width of the tire.
45 = 45% of the section width.
The two digits that typically follow the width represents the aspect ratio (profile measurement)
R = Radical construction.
The letter following the aspect ratio represents the tires construction. 98% or more tires are R.
17 = Used on a 17 inch diameter wheel.
The number following the construction letter represents what diameter wheel the tire should be matched with.
91 = Load index.
Represents the load the tire can handle.
V = Speed rating.
Represents the speed the tire can handle.
